Creating Charts

Infogr.am allows you to create visuals ranging from infographics to Facebook posts to charts. Infographics are handy when you want to use graphic visualization to tell a story that involves multiple charts and data. First, we’ll cover creating charts.

1) From your dashboard, you’ll want to hover over “Chart” and click to create.

2) You will then be met by this workspace where you can start editing your chart.

3) You’ll be able to choose from a variety of different charts. There are several different types within each category of charts. Find the best graph for your data (if you’re unsure, hover over the ? symbol next to each chart category to see what they’re best used for). You can always go back and change the chart or add a new one. In this tutorial, we’re going to create a Pictorial chart.

4) Press Insert” to pick the pictorial chart, and click on the chart to start editing your graphic. The icons that appear on the top right, allow you to edit data, narrow, download, duplicate, and delete (in order from top to bottom).

Note: You can also edit data by double clicking on the chart.

6) Double click on the chart area or press the edit data icon and a window will slide out that will allow you to input data. The chart comes with pre-inputted data to help you get started and determine how the data will look.

Note: You can also import your own data by uploading a file from your computer, or linking it from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or JSON feed.

7) For this chart, we’re going to do an infographic about the “U.S. Smartphone Users by Age, 2012 (% of population).” Now we’re going to insert the following data into the table:

Note: Instead of manually inputting the data, you can click on the Upload file” button to upload an Excel sheet.

Once you’re gotten all your data, click out of the window. Your graph should now look like this:

8) Now let’s add a title. To do so, click the add text button the left sidebar and insert a title. Double click to change the title to “U.S. Smartphone Users by Age, 2012 (% of population)”.

9) This is what my chart looks like at the end. I changed the theme and the title font/alignment. Have fun, and play around with yours!
