NPR’s Next Generation Radio at Annenberg

Taylor Winchell

Last week, the Digital Lounge had the pleasure of hosting NPR’s Next Generation Radio training for chosen Annenberg students. This is an initiative funded entirely by National Public Radio (NPR) designed to promote diversity in the newsroom by bringing young voices and ideas to public radio through hands-on training.

Their sessions taught on several topics, including: recording techniques, writing, voice and on-air presentation, social media reporting, and audio production.

A few chosen Annenberg students spent the week in a series of student radio training projects, co-sponsored by NPR member stations, journalists, and media organizations. Each student tackled different topics and projects, culminating in multimedia pieces throughout the week.

Check out their work here for story examples, student profiles, and behind-the-scenes media. Also, feel free to learn more about this event from USC News.
