That’s right, it’s finally March! However, these happy spring days often comes the dread of summer plans–will I get a job after graduation? How can I get that competitive internship? What must I do to live in The Village housing next year??

Though we can’t help you with that last one, we’ve created our workshops to give you an edge in your internship/job search. From learning to create pro graphics on your phone to tackling Google Analytics, we are here to give you the skills you need to stand out. The Digital Hustle: Making Content for the Web

Back by popular demand, Jonah Feingold will be teaching a 3-part course based on his talk from last semester: Making content for the web and getting paid to do it. We’ll take a look at the internet’s biggest content creators and how to reverse engineer what works. We’ll dive in the the psychology of MAKING THINGS – a film, painting, song, etc. We’ll figure out not only how to be creative, but how to be creative FULL time.

The course will take place on Mondays, 3/6, 3/20, and 3/27 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

Make a Move! Motion Graphics in After Effects

Create engaging and shareable social media content using After Effects in this beginners course. Don’t worry if you’ve never touched this intimidating program, we’ll be starting at the very beginning! You will learn the basic tools, techniques, and animation principles that After Effects wizards rely on daily to create fun motion graphics that are guaranteed to liven up any social media post by getting them moving!

This 3-part course will take place on Tuesday 3/7, 3/21, and 3/28 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

Create Media On-The-Fly w/Mobile Apps

Come and play in this hands-on workshop with the Adobe Spark mobile apps, which will allow you to create beautiful and easily shareable media content on-the-fly. In a world where you constantly have to push out content, these apps make it easier and faster.

Instructor Ben Forta, Sr. Director of Education Initiatives at Adobe, will show how the Spark apps allow you create quick social media posts, videos, and web pages. We’ll also have free snacks & Adobe swag!

Intro to Google Analytics & SEO

In this two-part course, you will learn the fundamentals of how to make a website rank in Google’s search results, which involves much more than programming and keywords.With digital ad fraud now hitting record levels, and more and more marketers demanding results beyond “likes” and “impressions,” understanding Google Analytics is critical for any communication professional.

We’ll discuss the creative strategies that attract traffic, engagement, and backlinks, all of which are critical to success on Google. In addition, you’ll learn how to use the free Google Analytics tool to measure not just website performance, but also the performance of your off-site advertising and social media marketing.

The course will take place on Wednesdays 3/22 and 3/29 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

Coding Workshop Series – Basic HTML and Basic CSS – CANCELLED

Does code terrify you? Want to get started but don’t know how? This session is for you. Learn about HTML tags, coding best practices, and what this HTML/CSS/JS alphabet soup all means. In this session, you’ll create a simple “About Me” page. Build on what you learned in Part 1 and learn the magic of CSS and how to make things look nice on the web. In this session, you’ll create a simple resume page.

This course will take place on Thursdays 3/23 and 3/30 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

Tackling Tableau for Beginners

Fascinated by data visualization but don’t have any experience beyond charts in Excel or PowerPoint? Juanita Rodriguez, Digital Marketing Analyst at ConsumerTrack Inc., will teach you how powerful a tool like Tableau can be to showcase data in a visually insightful manner.

Students will sign up for a free trial of Tableau Desktop and be given a large data set for hands on training. You will walk through the analytics workflow with a real world case study using Tableau to build a dashboard to tell an insightful story.

The course will take place on Tuesday 3/28 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
